Apple iPhone 15 Pro: Report Reveals Head

Aug 04, 2023

Apple iPhone 14 Pro. The next model is likely to come in all-new colors.

The next iPhones are almost here. Exactly when Apple will reveal the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max is still to be officially confirmed, but I’m certain it will be on Tuesday, September 12—full details here. It may be that one of the phones may be late in arriving, that the Pro models will have an appealing big upgrade and the range could have one surprising omission. Still, there’s still plenty we don’t know. But now, another part of the puzzle has been revealed: the colors for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

The reliable Zac Hall at 9to5Mac has detailed exactly what colors we can expect the iPhone 15 Pro to appear in. We’ve already heard talk about what colors the iPhone 15 might come in (and how there could be longer, more durable, braided, color-matching cables).

But details on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are different. That’s because it looks like the shiny, glossy stainless steel antenna band of all previous Pro iPhones is going to be replaced with a material new to the iPhone. This year we could see a titanium iPhone. This change should make for strong iPhones that are lighter than before. And titanium looks different, so it’s likely the color range will be updated, and a popular color could be omitted: gold.

The gold Pro iPhones have always sort of been my favorite. Too blingy and shiny for some, I love the glossy brightness, the gaudy, in-your-face opulence. But I get that the switch to the matte finish which comes so naturally to titanium might have made a gold-tinted version a less good fit.

It also looks like deep purple will vanish from the 2023 range of Pro iPhones. This is less of a surprise as Apple routinely runs its hero color for just one year, like the Sierra Blue iPhone 13 Pro, for instance.

Which leave us where? The report claims that there will be silver and space black options – this is hardly surprising and will work well with titanium. The space black titanium Apple Watch Edition from Series 7 looked stunning.

Then there’s a dark blue color which I can also see would work well with titanium. Finally, 9to5Mac reports that there will be a fourth color, which could be called titan gray. I’m not quite sure about that name, but we’ll see. It seems it will be a sort of raw titanium look, darker than silver but way lighter than space black. I would imagine it would most closely replace the titanium of the Apple Watch Ultra. A complete color refresh like this is dramatically different from previous years, which makes it all the more intriguing.
